2025 Abstract Presentation Request

Important: Please remember to register for the symposium in addition to submitting an abstract. 

General Instructions

  • All undergraduate, graduate, and post-docs are invited to submit abstracts for poster and oral presentations.
  • Submission of abstracts is FREE
  • The deadline for abstract submissions is March 14, by 11:59 PM. Notifications about abstract acceptances will be sent out by Friday, March 28.
  • Accepted posters have the option to be printed by the symposium. The guaranteed deadline for poster printing is Monday, April 7; however, posters will be accepted for printing up until April 10. The sooner you submit your poster for printing, the more likely it is to be printed on time for the symposium.
  • Be sure to proofread your submission for accuracy. Abstracts will be printed/displayed exactly as submitted.
  • Do not capitalize entire words unless they are accepted abbreviations (i.e., DNA, RNA, etc.)
  • Do not underline or use bold for any text
  • Do not capitalize disease names (i.e., salmonellosis should not be capitalized)
  • It is acceptable to capitalize common virus names (i.e., Rabies Virus or Respiratory Syncytial Virus)

Abstract Format

Authors, Presenters, and Affiliations

  • Enter in authors and affiliation(s) in the designated order. The order in which the authors are listed is the order in which they will be printed/displayed. There is no limit to the number of authors (if your poster has more than 10 authors, please let the abstract committee know).
  • Include author affiliation(s) with each author name.
  • Indicate which author is the presenting author.

Title

  • There is no character limit on titles, but please use a short, concise title.
  • Only capitalize the first word, proper nouns, and abbreviations
  • Do not use quotation marks in the title or add a period after the last word in the title

Abstract Body Guidelines

Character Limit: Maximum of 2100 characters, including spaces. Use a word processing application (e.g., Microsoft Word) to count words and characters.

Content Requirements:

  1. Objective: Provide a concise statement of the study’s objective.
  2. Methods: Briefly describe the methods used, if relevant.
  3. Results: Summarize the key findings of the study.
  4. Conclusions: State the main conclusions drawn from the results.

Submission Confirmation: Request a copy of your submission to double-check that all scientific characters and symbols are correctly formatted. If any formatting issues are found, please email the corrected copy to Muskan Kapoor at muskan@iastate.edu.

Enter 3-5 keywords that best describe your presentation and research area/topic.


Presentation Format

Oral presentation format

Oral presentations will be 15 minutes long (~12 minutes with 3 minutes for questions). You will be cut off at the 15-minute time point to keep the rest of the presentations on schedule.

Poster format

  • Dimensions of your poster can either be (height x width) 36”x48” (vertical) or 48”x36” (horizontal).
  • The symposium is offering to pay for poster printing. If your abstract is accepted for a poster presentation and you would like the symposium to print for you, please upload your poster to  Cy-Box by Monday, April 7.  Posters will be accepted for printing up until April 10. However, the sooner you submit it, the more likely it will be printed on time for the symposium. Printing through the symposium is completely optional – you are more than welcome to have your posters printed yourselves.
